It can be tough to provide care to up to six people, twenty-four hours per day, three-hundred sixty-five days per year. Still, people like Lisa find a way to do it while running a business. It delights us to give attention to people who provide so much attention to others.

What is your name, and what do you do?
My name's Lisa Duncan, and I'm originally from Guyana in South America. I'm the Owner and Administrator of Duncan's Family Care ALF.

What is the name and location of the senior care home(s) you own or manage?
Duncan's Family Care ALF is located at 1030 Gregory Dr, Maitland, FL.

What was your first job or experience in senior care?
I was fourteen years old when I had my first caregiving experience.

Can you tell us more about this experience?
My aunt was visiting from Canada for the Summer and got ill. I took care of her every day until she got better, and it came naturally. Twelve years ago, I migrated to the United States. My first experience in the US was working with a small facility in Mcdonough, Georgia. It wasn't for very long, but I enjoyed every bit, and the residents loved me as well.

What is your favorite part of running the business?
Taking care of people of all ages comes naturally to me, and I love doing it.

What is your most significant pain point in running the business?
I'm not too fond of the process for licensure and all of the paperwork after that.

What is the best way for families who need the care to reach you?
The best way for families to contact me is via my cell. I always encourage a one-on-one with the family member in charge first and then meet with the prospective resident. Both have a be a good fit for my facility.
