Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What training do your caregivers receive?

Our caregivers are certified Medication Technicians (med techs) and trained in CPR and first aid. In addition, our caregivers go through substantial training before starting work on subjects from infection control to Alzheimer’s and dementia to safe food handling practices to DNROs with ongoing training and certifications throughout the year. Many of our caregivers choose to become Certified Dementia Practitioners, a title representing highly specialized training.

What qualities do you look for in your caregivers? How do you screen them?

We look for compassionate, energetic, and dependable people. They have to pass a Level II background check and provide references and previous employer information for reference checks.

Do you accept Long-Term Care Insurance?

Yes, and we are happy to handle all of the care claims paperwork and periodic reporting requirements that go along with it.

Do you accept VA Aid and Attendance?

Veterans Affairs (VA) works directly with the veteran or the veteran’s power of attorney (POA), but this can be another useful resource to help cover a portion of care costs. If your loved one is a veteran or the spouse of a veteran, this is an option you should explore if you haven’t already. Please consult with an elder law attorney to determine if you are eligible.

Do you accept Medicaid?

Vivant Senior Living is enrolled in Simply Healthcare’s Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care (SMMC LTC) program. Payments received from Simply enrollees supplement total care costs. The family or resident is responsible for covering costs not covered by Simply. Please consult with an elder law attorney to determine if you are eligible.

Do you accept Medicare?

Medicare covers medical care for seniors, but does not cover long-term care including assisted living. However, all of our medical partners accept Medicare.

Can you recommend an elder law attorney?

Yes, we recommend Family First Firm. They are local, offer free consultations, and specialize in Medicaid eligibility, VA benefits, estate planning, guardianship, probate, and Social Security Disability.

Do you have caregivers that speak Spanish?

Yes, we have a wonderful and diverse team of caregivers including some caregivers that speak Spanish!
